The Deliberate Sinner tells the story of an adventurous and free spirited girl Rihana who marries with an eligible bachelor Veer in accordance with her family. But post marriage, her life is turned upside down. Veer does not care for her emotional and physical needs sucking out the charm of her life. Despite of the differences between them, she tries to maintain the relation for the society and her parents.

But will it lead to any fruitful relationship? Will Veer understand her needs and try to work out the differences? Will she be able to live a happy and meaningful life as his wife?

The Deliberate Sinner raises so many questions at the society. Woven into a tale that is so fast paced that if you have time, you can finish it off in a single stretch, Bhaavna Arora has clearly pointed out some of the hypocrisies of an Indian society. I myself was able to finish off the book in two stretches. Thanks to the gripping narrative of the book for that.

The story of The Deliberate Sinner is quite simple if we talk about that critically. But the emotions behind them are so realistic, relevant and brilliantly crafted by the author that it comes out as a hard hitter. It hits at the male dominant society and the patriarchal thinking from which even our parents are not quite distant. Through every turn and fall in her life, Rihana faces the true nature of the society. It is often hateful how she is being treated despite of having everything that a guy may dream of (as mentioned in the book). It reveals the fact that the looks and appeal has nothing to do with the fate a woman might have under certain circumstances.

You might feel that The Deliberate Sinner is clichéd and yes it is. After reading the plot, you can easily jump to the conclusion without reading it. But I loved the way Bhaavna Arora has brought the story to an end. It felt just perfect for the book. Another thing is that I could not clearly find the reason behind the irrational behavior of Veer despite of the fact that it has been raised in the book that males feed on pretty looks and sensual appeal of a woman. Also, I would have loved if Rihana was not from such a big background. I’m not saying that it is by any means fault of the plot but only suggesting an opinion. I would have wanted to read how a girl that is not from a rich background thrives under such circumstances.

Other than that, The Deliberate Sinner is a good one for me and I will definitely suggest it to all of you. It is a bold attempt by the author but I did not find overtones of sexuality or sensuality dancing over the plot which was a good thing. All that has been mentioned explicitly was mentioned only in relevant areas which was the best thing. Seeking the cover page, I had not thought that the book could be actually this serious and raise some ill issues of our society.

Oh by the way, I forgot to flaunt the autographed copy with an amazing quote.
